Kili Climb 2013 – Day 4

Spent the night at Sopa Lodge at Ngorongoro Crater. The altitude was over 7500 feet, so it really helps to spend time at this level for acclimatization. Some slept well, others not so much.

After a wonderful breakfast in the restaurant overlooking the crater, we left for our safari shortly before 7.

Almost right away we saw a jeep that had turned over in the night. We quickly prayed for the safety of our team, so glad to have safe and knowledgeable drivers.

Upon driving into the crater, we immediately saw animals. Amongst those we saw were:

Female bush baby
Cape buffalo
Grants gazelle
Wildebeest
Warthog
Hartebeest
Thompson gazelle
Zebra
Jackal
Crested Crane
Koribuster
Lion

We returned to the lodge for lunch, then headed back to Arusha. The highly prepared and professional team from Adventures International reviewed our packing kits, and then gave us a very thorough briefing. From this point, we will rely on their trained guides and porters, as we take off in the morning for Rongai Route. Wish us well as we climb for clean water!
