Personal Facts: As a higher education lawyer, I have the pleasure of working with talented business executives and educators around the nation who are providing training and education in fields like healthcare, business administration, information technology and personal care. The ever changing regulatory environment for these postsecondary institutions makes my work challenging and interesting. That’s my day job, for which I am very thankful, since I enjoy working with my clients – and it pays the bills! And occasionally at college conferences, I get the kick of being an ‘entertainer’ singing familiar songs I have re-written with education lyrics, like ‘We Are the Schools’, shown at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VdmpT9mFdv8&feature=youtu.be. But what I enjoy even more are opportunities to do things that help those who are less fortunate locally and around the world. Things like Polar Bear Plunges for Special Olympics, medical missions to the Philippines with my Rotary Club (South Platte Rotary), chairing charity golf tournaments and serving on community agency boards, like Della Lamb Community Services, a United Methodist Church social service agency that on a daily basis assists some 2000 lower income families, including re-settled refugees from countries like Sudan and Somalia. When my brother Rev. John Holt and his son Rev. Eran Holt in late 2010 solicited financial support from me for their climb up Mt. Kilimanjaro in January 2011 to help WorldServe International raise money for water wells for villages lacking an adequate supply of clean water, I knew this was the kind of adventure with a great purpose that I would welcome if WorldServe ever held another ‘Kili’ climb. So, when I learned earlier this year that a second Kili climb was being planned, I signed up and began my fitness training. My fundraising goal of $25,000 is a big challenge, but with the support of many friends and businesses I know it will be reached and that money will cover the cost of a water well that can serve an entire village. As a Rotarian and a follower of Jesus Christ, I am thrilled at the opportunity to help bring not just a cup, but many years of supply, of clean water to many people in East Africa ,and I am grateful to all who are able to make a contribution to WorldServe to support my climb and my fundraising goal.
